Plant science innovations help feed our communities, protect our environment and grow our economy.
Food for thought.
Learn how dedication, efficient food production and sound science come together to enable Canadian farmers to sustainably feed 35 million Canadians and other nations around the world.
Plant science innovations are helping farmers grow stronger, healthier crops across Canada. The data is clear, pesticides and plant breeding innovations deliver a wide range of benefits for Canadians and we want to share that story:
- In our COMMUNITIES, Canadian families save an average of $4,500 a year on food costs thanks to efficient, high-yield farming practices.
- Environmentally, almost 34 million acres are maintained in a natural state (untouched by agriculture) due to increased production on existing farmland. This is the same amount of space as about 25 million football fields.
- Economically, Canada’s agri-food exports would be $8.5 billion (33%) lower without the use of crop protection products.
All the data presented on this site comes from the The Value of Plant Science Innovations to Canadians in 2020 report and the 2021 Census of Agriculture.
